Asian Art Museum of San Francisco to Reopen Asian Art Museum of San Francisco re-opens March 20, 2003, in its new, expanded home in historic Civic Center. Italian Architect Gae Aulenti, best-known for converting a train station into Paris' Musée d'Orsay, conceived the dramatic transformation of San Francisco's former Main Library into a museum, adding modern elements to a 1917 beaux arts building.
